Christening your child is a joyous occasion. Jesus allowed the children to come to Him – their innocence an example to many that they are precious in the sight of God. It is our prayer that as your child grows up, he/she will accept Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. We want them to view church as their friend and not their enemy. As such we delight in a Christening service, one where family and friends can join the child in his/her first ‘church service’. God honours such an occasion.
The purpose of a Christening is three-fold:
It is a ‘naming’ ceremony. During the service we ask mom to give us her child’s Christian name.
It is a ‘dedication’ ceremony. We seek God’s blessing upon the child, and since God is the giver of life, we honour and thank Him for blessing the family with their child’s precious life and as such dedicate the child to the Lord.
Prayer for the parents for godly wisdom in rearing their child.
The Christening service usually takes place at the church, unless by special request for another venue, and at any time after the Sunday morning service, and runs for approximately 20 minutes.
